How It Works:
The Enphase Envoy utilizes Zigbee wireless communication to gather performance data from individual microinverters. Zigbee operates in the 2.4 GHz band and is susceptible to interference and attenuation. The Envoy then transmits this data to the Enphase cloud servers via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Successful microgrid formation relies on reliable, low-latency communication between the Envoy and all microinverters. Insufficient signal strength disrupts data aggregation and control sequences, preventing stable islanding operation. Proper data logging depends on uninterrupted Zigbee communication. Firmware updates are delivered OTA (over the air) to both the Envoy and the microinverters via the internet and rely on a functioning network connection.
